Where is your mind? Kind of a funny question, but throughout the day, on a moment-to-moment basis, where is your mind. Is it FOCUSED on the current situation you are involved with? Is it lost in another task, problem or situation that you have been in or are going to be in? Too often our thoughts are somewhere other than where they need to be. We spend so much time in guilt and regret, which is actually the past. Can you change the past? NO. Can you learn from it? YES. Should you dwell negatively on it when it can not be changed? Absolutely not. Other times we are in worry. Worry is the future.
So, we tend to spend the majority of our mental time either in the past or in the future, but very little in the PRESENT. God lives in the present. Buddhists call it being MINDFUL. Being very AWARE of what you are actually doing right now. Whether that be chewing food, talking to a friend or family member or spending time in prayer. How present are you. Are you able to control the thoughts that come flashing into your mind at any given moment. Mindful breathing, meditation and prayer are great ways to attempt to keep your mind in one direction and in the present.
Practice staying present, in the moment, throughout your day. When you eat, focus on the food and how it will nourish your body. When you talk with someone, really listen. Don’t think of what to say next or how they are wrong and you are right. Attempt to just be there, actually listening to what they have to say. Be willing to HEAR what they are saying. If you are at work, don’t just watch the clock, look up your stocks or figure out a way to get by with doing less. “If you never do more than you get paid for, you will never get paid for more than you do.” If you truly stayed focused on performing your job to the best of your abilities the opportunities will eventually open up for you. It’s based on natural laws and, like gravity, always works.
The key is FOCUS. Not just any focus but PRESENT TIME FOCUS. Being 100% committed to whatever the task at hand is, and doing it MINDFULLY, and not just going through the motions. My goal in the office is to be truly PRESENT and FOCUSED with every patient, everytime, on every table. You deserve nothing but my full undivided attention. One time we asked that patients try not to talk with Dr. Pat and myself when we were adjusting and some people were offended. I assume we didn’t do a good enough job at explaining this concept of being PRESENT. If we did, they would have understood that whoever was on that table deserved nothing less than perfect PRESENT TIME FOCUS.
BJ Palmer said, “To adjust the subluxation, then, is to advance mankind, step up his efficiency, increase his ability, make him more natural and more at peace within himself; for all things are possible to him whose body equals his Innate.” This is the BIGNESS of the specific, scientific, chiropractic adjustment. To remove the physical barrier to proper function, communication and connection to the SOURCE. When you understand the enormity of our job it is easy to see why we need to remain FOCUSED and PRESENT with every patient. We are adjusting you as if your lives depend on it…because it does!!!
I once heard, “The past is done, the future uncertain but today is the gift and thats why they call it the PRESENT.”
Have a great week. See you in the office for your RECONNECTION.
